About Us

Mayor George Smith chartered Atlantic Beach Troop 37 on October 13th 1937 and we have consistently been a part of the Atlantic Beach community ever since.

Coinciding with the evolution of Boy Scouts of America to Scouting America we also chartered, Scout Troop #9037, a Scouting America Troop for girls ages 11 - 17 with the support of Community Presbyterian Church, our chartering organization.

The historic Atlantic Beach Hotel hosted our Troop meetings the first year until our own dedicated Scout Hut was built by participating families. A lot of local history is embedded in the centuries-old cypress wood walls and open beams that soar 24 feet to a cathedral ceiling and honey-toned floors from a thrifty Scout dad who saved the fine old-growth maple planks from the demolition of Jacksonville’s 19th century Post Office.

The Scout Hut, as it is affectionately known, has since hosted an array of youth in the region including Brownies and Girl Scouts and other youth groups and become a beacon of youth values in the Beaches community. We look forward to having you visit or join us!

Thousands of former Scouts can attest that our unique building offers a memorable representation of the history of Scouting and the strong values that Scouting is built on.  Its historic significance is entwined with these values and its purpose to shape the Scouts themselves while also helping them to belong as a valuable members of their communities.
